In 1998 after a career of over 15 years in accountancy, companies’ liquidation, companies investigation and financial services regulation in the UK, Japheth was appointed the first CEO of Capital Markets Authority, Uganda a position he held for 16 years. He has over the years acquired experience and expertise in accountancy, leadership, financial services policy and regulation and corporate governance. He has particular passion for corporate governance and has written and lectured on the subject. He is a co-author of the book "corporate governance in Uganda: principles and practices" published by Fountain Publishers.
Japheth undertakes board/trustees induction, training, evaluation, board searches and board remuneratipn surveys. He is a trainer on the Kenya based Strathmore University Business School executive programs. Japheth is a regular speaker at national, regional, and international conferences on corporate governance, regulation, accountancy and financial services.
Japheth chairs the Boards of Stanbic Bank Uganda (a subsidiary of Standard Bank Group of South Africa) and Uganda Breweries Ltd and is a board member of East African Breweries Limited (EABL). Uganda Breweries is a subsidiary of EABL which in turn is a subsidiary of Diageo plc.
He was a member of the Global Council of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for 6 years until November 2018. He also served for 9 years on the board and committees of the New York based International Federation of Accountants. On the side of not-for- profit, Japheth was on the board of the Duke of Edinburgh International Award and Junior Achievement (JA) Uganda.
In addition to serving on boards, Japheth currently undertakes consultancy assignments particularly in corporate governance. Japheth is a B. Com honours graduate of Makerere University (Uganda), a fellow of ACCA and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda
